To those who are missing the BURN

Opulent Temple 2007
While the man may have some of us in its grips, for others we can just reminense and subcounciously catch the vibes that are undoubtely flowing from Black Rock City, NV where the annual Burning Man festival is held. It is an experience of a life time and no one says it differnent. The people, Art, Music, and culture attracts all walks of life from the google execs./owners(read their blog) all the way down to the hippy homeless roadsters, and of course its routes in outlaw bikers. While not everyone can attend the energry doesnt stop there, it will continue throughout the country and cosmos. Like a wave post burning man De-Compression events will scatter all over the country while attendees flock back to their regular or irregualr lives. Look closely as this is all walks of life and non-discriminatory.

With that said let us reminice is the glory of last years music. This one is from one of my favorite groups/camps out there Opulent Temple from the man who pretty much makes it all happen, Syd gris(http://www.opulenttemple.org/)

I had the pleasure of hearing live and hanging with him back stage at their NYC Opulent Temple fundraiser at public assembly in brooklyn. So check out his opening set at last years burning man and feel the incredibly massive vibes put forth from a tiny place in the middle of nevada desert:

“2020Soundsystem are one of the best live bands in electronic music and have played shows to more than 20,000 people several times. They have established themselves firmly in the festival circuit as well as building up their reputation through the world of underground clubs and dirty discos. Their debut album “No Order” received best album in DJ, IDJ and Update magazines. It features two CDs, documenting their Sweatshop studios work and a second disc featuring a recording from their live performance at the hottest music festival on the planet: Sonar in Barcelona.

2020Soundsystem was started as a new way of playing mixing live instruments with electronics by Ralph Lawson, original DJ at the legendary back to basics club in Leeds, and Danny ‘dubble d’ Ward. Tired of a jaded club scene they sought a different way to entertain and excite. By weaving live instruments into Lawsons DJ set, they transformed the clubbing experience into something new by giving the best of both worlds: the continuity and diversity of a DJ mix with the raw energy and excitement of seeing a live band.”

Vivat Subterrenus

Vivat Subterrenus

Why the underground? Because we still believe in the pure, the basic? Could it be so simple, so trite? Its much more of a need than that, an endless chase for specific stimuli, a search for connection and beauty and the sacred in a society devoid of spiritual community, a hunger that can only be fed by beats and dance. Or is it simply a narcissistic aesthetic compulsion, desperation to be unique and special like mommy promised but the world didn’t deliver, jaded, clinging to and milking our pain, smarter-than, better-than, hipper, hotter, cooler, without trying of course, though our own counterculture fashions become the most pervasive trends.. A passport to drop out and travel around aimlessly under grandiose premises, doing drugs to help suspend disbelief that this is just a bunch of runaways listening to simple, repetitive crap, no it fucking can’t be!!! But it often is.

We are voracious and have consumed everything else, memorized it against our will, logged it with the rest of the force-fed product placement – what has been done is taboo,  nothing but the edge of the world will do! So close you can look over and peek into the unimaginable void before paddling quickly away, where the water crashes over and falls endlessly into darkness, roaring into silence.. Go back on second thought and toss some rocks into the unfathomable abyss, lower a rope, reach in, fall in, finally discovering something new if your descent doesn’t kill you – others on similar quests.. The night calls to our kind, the drums call, through fog and smoke and stifling heat. On subways, through traffic, we sidestep those that don’t understand, journeying to remote factories and forests, to uninhabitable deserts to celebrate in peace. We sacrifice much, we risk much. But we are right there, on a dark, surging wave with a view of it all, picking up speed.. Just relax on impact, break like the water and come together in a new place, ready to do it again.

Streetlab Exclusive EP-release Mix (40 min, 192kbps MP3)

Bringin’ the NYC feel…

“Streetlab might bring to mind old-school bigbeat acts like the Chemical Bros and Crystal Method, but their sound is all their own with a harder and four-four rock rhythm which is straight up for dancing. You can hear it in the stuff they produce as well as in their choice and style of remixes. It comes as no surprise that their SELEKTOR mix is tinged with their own recuts of some pretty big rock tracks as well as original tracks from their new EP.”

Call to action

“I AM NOT OK” is a call to action. It’s about not being content with anything that you are doing or anything that you have done. Each of us can do more — for ourselves and each other. There’s no time to “take it easy”. It’s not about being greedy, but it is about wanting more for yourself (there is a difference). It’s about pushing the limits (numbers and people) — as far as they can go. I AM NOT OK. -Joe Nice(Dubwar)
